Well, this is actually a little project from my Dad and I. My name is Kent Newland, my Dad's name is David. He's 51, I'm 27.
Dad graduated from Naval Nuclear Power school back in 75, IIRC. He was in the Navy for about two years before a severe injury forced them to medically discharge him. During his time, he served on a few submarines, and a sub-tender, and an aircraft carrier. After getting out, he started work in nuclear power as a health physics technician, and married my Mom in '80. Shortly thereafter, I was born. Dad's done a lot of stuff, mostly nuclear power, but he ran his own business, quite successfully, from '93 to '03. Unfortunately, injuries once again forced him to quit the business. Since then, he's gone back to work on the road, working at nuke plants around the country. Right now, he's planning on opening a BBQ restaurant this spring, here in our hometown. Dad likes throwing pottery, he likes to work, and stay busy. He's a big do-it-yourself type, and that's rubbed off on us kids. He has three kids, myself, the oldest, my sister Jennifer, and our younger brother, Derek. He and my Mom are still married, thankfully, after nearly 28 years. Dad also likes rock and roll music, and a bit of classical. He's a big Monty Python fan, and has warped us kids with his sense of humor. He loves politics, and both of us love our Country. In fact, I never mention the "P" word around him, or I'll never get him to stop.
My name is Kent. I joined the Army back in '98, and served for eight years, including a tour in Afghanistan and Iraq. Everyone always wants to know, "What's it like over there?". Well, Mom always said, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. So, I'd prefer not to say anything. After getting out of the Army, I bummed around in Columbus, Georgia for a bit, taught martial arts, and worked some rotten jobs, or good jobs with rotten bosses. Finally, this past October, I decided things weren't working out, and I moved back in with the folks. Currently, I am enrolled at the local college, and I start school this semester. I's very excited.
